MAD Lions have completed their League of Legends roster with former Fnatic support Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov marking the team’s fourth signing in two days.

The Bulgarian veteran comes in as the final piece of the puzzle ahead of the 2023 League of Legends EMEA Championship Winter Split. The franchise made the announcement via Twitter, a few hours after the 27-year-old player was released by Fnatic.

“After almost five years together, today we say our farewells to @FNCHylissang,” Fnatic’s farewell message read.

“We are immensely proud to have been a part of your journey and grateful for your countless contributions to Fnatic. Your name is truly forged in Black and Orange.”

Hylissang joins MAD Lions after spending almost five years with Fnatic, having joined the franchise in 2018. In his almost decade-long career, the Bulgarian has only represented two franchises, with the MAD Lions becoming the third.

He started out with the German esports team Unicorn of Love, where he spent his first three years as a professional LOL gamer. He won the 2016 IEM Season XI Oakland with the franchise and finished second in the 2017 EU LEC Spring tournament after losing to G2 Esports in the grand final.

In his first season with Fnatic, Hylissang clinched the EU LEC Spring and Summer championships, decimating G2 Esports and FC Schalke 04 Esports in their respective grand finals. In the same season, he was denied a grand final spot by Royal Never Give Up at the 2018 Mid-Season Invitational but got a final appearance at the LoL World Championship, where Fnatic were bested by Invictus Gaming.

Hylissang has since the summer of 2018 found it difficult to clinch a regional title, having finished in second place in four LEC playoff appearances with the black-and-orange team. Despite a highly decorated career, he is yet to get his hands on an international trophy.

Having been with Fnatic for the longest part of his career, it would take some getting used to for fans to see the Bulgarian under the banner of another franchise. MAD Lions, on the other hand, cannot wait to see Hylissang’s aggressive playing style complemented by their newly signed ADC, Matyá? “Carzzy” Orság.

Both players had previously expressed their desire to play alongside each other for the 2023 LEC season. The duo has been described as the “explosive firepower” in the MAD Lions’ star-studded roster.

The Spanish organization’s complete roster now features support Hylissang, bot laner Carzzy, top laner Kim “Chasy” Dong-hyeon, jungler Javier “Elyoya” Prades, and mid laner Yasin “Nisqy” Din?er. James “Mac” MacCormack will continue in his capacity as head coach alongside his assistant, Patrick “Pad” Suckow-Breum.

Fnatic’s League of Legends World Championship 2022 campaign has continued to blossom, with the franchise maintaining a three-game winning streak.

On day one of the tournament, Fnatic faced off against Evil Geniuses and later took on the Oceanic representative, Chiefs Esports Club. The European squad won both games and added to their winning streak by defeating Japan’s DetonatioN FocusMe in their most recent outing, after their bot laner, Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev, rejoined the team.

League of Legends fans did not expect much from Fnatic during this tournament, especially after the team’s bot laner, Elias “Upset” Lipp, previously revealed that they were yet to undertake a scrimmage for the Worlds. He made this revelation a week before the event, explaining that, unlike most teams, Fnatic were yet to scrim with any squad.

Fnatic had an even bigger issue when their bot lane duo, Hylissang and Upset, almost missed the tournament after testing positive for COVID-19. The players eventually tested negative, but not after much delay, which stopped them from practicing with the other members of the lineup. Hylissang was also unable to join his team on the first day of the event.

Despite the issues and using an impromptu substitute, Fnatic gave an impressive performance on the first day after easily defeating Evil Geniuses and Chiefs Esports Club. DetonatioN FocusMe were the European team’s next target in order to maintain their top position in the Play-In Group A standings, and the Japanese lineup held up considerably well.

DFM started the game by launching a surprise catch in the bottom in the middle of the two AD-support duos and earned themselves a number of quick kills.

Fnatic seemed to be in trouble after Shunsuke “Evi” MuraseIván executed a solo kill on Wunder and “Razork” Martín Díaz fumbled a tower dive; however, they bounced back. The European team seemed to come alive at the mid to late point of the game and swept DFM away.

Fnatic’s absolute switch-up in their team fighting skills proved too much for DFM. The team were able to move on to the Nexus after a number of skirmishes which resulted in a free Baron.

While Rúben “Rhuckz” Barbosa made himself a crucial part of Fnatic’s success yesterday despite being a substitute, Hylissang was an integral part of his team’s win against DKM.

The player was caught a number of times, but he was overall a tremendous help to his team. This was primarily due to his impressive engages on Moakai, which resulted in two kills as well as nine assists and four deaths.

Fnatic’s next challenge in the Worlds 2022 tournament will see the Jakob Mebdi-led team take on LOUD. It comes as no surprise that the Brazilian team are heavy outsiders on top esports betting sites with $6.12 odds.

Fnatic has revealed through their official Twitter account that two members of their League of Legends European Championship (LEC) team, Elias “Upset” Lipp and Zdravets “Hylissang” Iliev Galabov, have tested positive for COVID-19. Hence, the organization noted that as a consequence of this, their trip to Mexico would be significantly delayed.

The League of Legends World Championships 2022 are fast approaching, and the first stage of the competition, the Play-In, will begin on September 29 in Mexico City, Mexico. Esports teams from all over the globe have been busy putting the finishing touches on their visa applications in order to guarantee their participation in international League of Legends competitions. Sadly, for the second consecutive year, Fnatic is now dealing with challenges that have the potential to impair their efficiency at Worlds.

Even though Upset and Hylissang report that they are “doing fine,” they will still require some time to fully recover from the ravages of the virus. On the other hand, this indicates that Fnatic will not have their complete starting lineup ready when the play-in stage commences.

The squad was scheduled to leave for Mexico City on Saturday, September 24, but due to this change, it is quite likely that they would not have sufficient time to practice together as a team before the most important event of the year.

The first match of League of Legends Worlds 2022 will take place on Thursday, September 29, between Fnatic and Evil Geniuses of North America. Esports betting sites have placed Fnatics as the favorite with an odd to win at $1.67, while Evil Geniuses is placed with a $2 odds to win the play-in match. This match will mark the beginning of both teams’ respective journeys toward the Summoner’s Cup.

The following players will be participating in Worlds 2022 for Fnatic:

● Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen – Top laner

● Iván “Razork” Martín Díaz – Jungle

● Marek “Humanoid” Brázda – Mid lane

● Upset – Attack-damage carry (ADC)

● Hyllisang – Support

Louis “BEAN” Schmitz, an ADC player, is designated as the substitute player in case things do not turn out as planned for the team. It might interest you to know that, BEAN served as Upset’s replacement at Worlds the year before last. It was announced that Upset would not be participating in the rest of the tournament because he needed to return home to attend to an important family issue.

It will be very fascinating to watch whether or not the players are able to recuperate in time to make the trip to Mexico for the play-in phase. The team’s chances of advancing further in the 2022 World Championships are totally dependent on the results of this opening stage, and it will be unpleasant for them to have to compete with two substitute players if they are prompted to do so.
