A rematch of the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational semi-finals is upon us, as SK Telecom T1 and G2 Esports lock horns on Sunday, November 3 in the last four of the 2019 League of Legends World Championship. The winner of this clash will emerge as the second squad to advance into the finals, where they will be joined by the winner of the all-Chinese bout between Invictus Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix.

SK Telecom T1

SKT T1 entered the LoL World Championship as the outright favourites to lift the Summoner’s Cup and they remain as such as they venture off into the semi-finals.

If we take a look back and examine how SKT T1’s road to the semi-finals looked like, there are not a lot of negative things to say about them, if any for that matter.

SKT T1 dominated everyone in Group C, which was objectively the toughest group of the tournament, and they did so with near-perfect performances, where they always looked like they’re one step ahead of the opponents.

In the quarter-finals, SKT T1 got lucky with their draw, as they got seeded with Splyce, who were seen as the weakest team out of the remaining eight. While the Europeans produced some resistance, they were not up to par with SKT T1, who won with relative ease (3-1) and secured a spot in the semis.

While SKT T1 did not have an easy road to the semi-finals, their biggest and toughest challenge awaits them this Sunday when they face an old enemy and home crowd’s favourite G2 Esports.

G2 Esports

G2 Esports enter the 2019 LoL World Championship semi-finals as the only remaining European team, meaning there is a lot of pressure on Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther and his squad to deliver and bring home the Summoner’s Cup.

Just like SKT T1, G2’s road to the semi-finals was anything but easy, yet they made it seem as such. G2 started their Worlds venture in Group A alongside C9, Griffin and Hong Kong Attitude, where they showed their worth by displaying immense quality and talent to finish as the second seed, after losing the tie-breaker against Griffin.

Despite failing to claim the first spot in groups, G2’s confidence remained unscathed as they ventured off into the quarter-finals, where they dismantled DAMWON Gaming 3-1, to claim the ticket in the next stage.

Looking at G2 and how they play, they are the complete contrast to what SKT T1 is in terms of how they approach their fixtures. While SKT T1 tends to be a very traditional team, G2 are anything but, with their off-meta picks and overall unique approach to their bouts, which is also their biggest advantage.

And it’s not only their off-meta champion picks that G2 use to throw off their opponents, but also their exceptional movement on the map, which they utilize to turn 1-3-1 into 1-4 with ease, thus putting a lot of pressure on the enemy team and their side lanes.

SKT T1 vs G2 betting predictions

G2 to win – Best odds at BetOnline

In terms of how prepared the two teams are, it would be safe to say both SKT T1 and G2 are entering the semi-finals in form, as we could not sense any of their players playing particularly bad throughout the tournament.

For this bout, all the spotlight will be on the mid lane, where we will get to witness the clash between Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and Caps, who are both regarded as two of the best mid laners that ever entered the Rift.

Due to the quality of the two mid laners this match could be decided in the mid lane, however, there is nothing that would make us give one of the players an advantage over the other, leading us to believe this clash is a toss-up. And the same can be a said for all other lanes, meaning it will all come down to strategy and overall macro play of the two squads.

In terms of how the two sides approach the game, we like G2 better solely due to their ability to play at a very fast pace. SKT T1 on the other side tend to play their games very slow, methodical and calculated, which in this clash will work against them. In other words, SKT T1 in our eyes are too cautious for G2, who will take full advantage of their faster pace and faster resets to derail the Koreans for the second time this year.

While SK Telecom T1 became the third team to reach the 2019 LoL World Championship semi-finals, the Korean giants had to work harder than expected in their clash with Splyce in the quarters.

The first two meetings of the series were fairly one-sided, with SKT showing off their true potential and claiming both. Splyce had their own moments of greatness, but their mid-game struggles prevented them from causing an upset at the Spanish capital.

In game three, Splyce produced what can easily be seen as their best performance of the tournament. The European third seed fearlessly fought back against the Korean giants, who were taken aback by Splyce’s determination and an incredible display of skill.

All the spotlight was on Andrei Xerxe Dragomir, who managed to strike fear into SKT T1’s roster with his Reksai pick. The Romanian jungler did not need long to get himself a substantial lead in the early game, which helped Splyce stabilize their notoriously shaky mid-game.

Splyce’s team fighting prowess shone brightly in game three and the early game lead on top of two Infernal drakes the Europeans snatched early helped them overcome SKT T1 more than a handful of times.

The turning point of the match came in 24th minute of the match when the crowd looked in shock as Splyce decimated SKT T1 to secure the Baron buff and got themselves in a winning position.
This time Splyce took full advantage of the situation, made one last push towards the enemy Nexus and secured the first win of the series to make it 1-2.

With game four on the way, there was a silent hope at the Spanish capital Splyce might be able to turn this series into one for the books and their strong early game suggested we just might witness history.

While Splyce’s top lane suffered, they were slowly but surely gaining a lead at the bottom lane, and while Europeans were still behind in gold for most of the match, they did not give up and kept on pushing.

The loud cheering of European fans went silent for a moment as the two teams met next to the dragon pit for the first big team fight of the match at around the 19-minute mark. It was now or never for Splyce, who once more showed they are not to be underestimated, as they picked up four SKT T1 members while losing only two of their own.

At this point, Splyce were in a very solid position to make something happen and possibly even push the series into five games. That said, their mid-game flaws started to surface.
Lee Faker Sang-hyeok picked up a few kills on his signature Ryze pick, which started the snowball effect for SKT T1.

The Koreans kept on the pressure, won a crucial 3v2 team fight in the top lane in the in the 32nd minute, made one final push through the mid lane and sealed the series at 3-1.

It was a crushing defeat for Splyce, but one that will go down in history with very positive scores. The European third seed made SKT T1 fight for their lives, proved even the gods can bleed and most of all, made Europe proud.

SKT T1 will now face against G2 in the semi-finals, which has the potential to be the biggest and most exciting series of the tournament thus far.

The League of Legends World Championship quarter-finals will come to a close on Sunday afternoon when SK Telecom T1 take on Splyce. Let’s take a look at latest LoL odds and the best bets for the last fixture of the first knockout round at Madrid’s Palacio Vistalegre.

SK Telecom T1

SKT entered the 2019 LoL World Championship as favourites to claim their fourth Summoner’s Cup, and their efforts so far would suggest they are rightful holders of that title.

The quarter-final match-up is a dream come true for the Koreans, as Splyce are universally regarded as the weakest of the eight LoL esports teams that made it to Spain.

Normally we can point to strengths and weaknesses on both sides of a contest, but the odds speak for themselves in this instance.

Splyce

+1397 at BetOnline

Splyce made a remarkable run on the final day of the group stage when they defeated J Team, GAM Esports and FunPlus Phoenix to claim a playoff ticket.

It was a proud moment for Splyce and the whole European region, which saw all three of their teams advance into the final stage of the tournament, but Sunday’s fixture will bring them back down to earth.

Splyce deserve all the praise they can get for what they have shown against their group opponents, but SKT T1 are an entirely different beast.

SKT T1 vs Splyce betting predictions

Under 3.5 maps – -263.16 at BetOnline

Comparing the roster lane-by-lane, SKT T1 come out ahead every time.

And not only do the Koreans come out ahead in terms of individual quality, but the difference in team play, experience and the overall approach to the game is so immense that it is hard to see Splyce producing anything noteworthy.

While clean sweeps are a rarity so deep into the tournament, this fixture is such a huge mismatch that we are confident saying SKT T1 will defeat Splyce 3-0.

Following a questionable start of the season, SK Telecom T1 impressed with a near-perfect run in LCK playoffs to win their eighth title, US $80,000 in prize money and a heavily sought-after ticket to the 2019 League of Legends World Championship, which will give Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok a shot at winning his fourth world title.

While slowly regaining strength, the three-time world champions still remain only a shadow of their former selves, when they were the unstoppable force in the LoL esports scene.

A fearsome squad, which consisted of Lee “Duke” Ho-seong, Bae “Bengi” Seong-woong, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok, Bae “Bang” Jun-sik and Lee “Wolf” Jae-wan terrorized teams at 2016 Worlds, and even put up a solid fight at 2017 World Championship, when SKT T1 finished runners-up. Unfortunately, their failure to win 2017 Worlds ended an era and pushed SKT T1 into a downward spiral.

The 2018 LCK season proved to be the worst season in SKT T1 history. A disappointing fourth-place finish in the spring split, followed by a seventh-place finish in the summer split meant SKT T1 were faced with a painful fact they are going to miss the Worlds for the first time since 2015.

Disappointed and determined to regain their status as one of the most feared teams in the world, SKT T1 implemented drastic changes, which meant a complete restructure of the team.

In the eyes of the South Korean esports organization, it was time to build the ultimate team around their superstar, Faker, and doing so by providing him with four teammates, who can help him win his fourth World Championship.

On November 18, 2018, SKT T1s plan was revealed. The plan was simple, sign some of the best, most talented and overall most respected Korean League of Legends players in the world and reclaim the throne.

SKT T1 entered the 2019 LCK season with a new, fearsome roster consisting of names such as Kim “Khan” Dong-ha, Kim “Clid” Tae-min, Park “Teddy” Jin-seong, Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong and Faker, which made it clear the Korean heavyweights meant business. Ambitions were there and result followed.

SKT T1 emerged as the best team in the LCK Summer Split, reclaiming the top spot in Korea, ahead of Griffin, Kingzone DragonX and DAMWON Gaming.

Proving their spring split was not a fluke. SKT continued producing solid results in the summer split as well, and while they failed to finish top three in the regular season, a fourth-place finish (11-7) was more than enough to send them into playoffs.

Entering the summer split playoffs, SKT T1 had a tough road ahead, as they had to fight through all three rounds to meet up with Griffin, something no other Korean team managed to do before. But that did not stop Faker and his crew, who looked unstoppable from day one of playoffs.

A convincing 2-1 win over Afreeca Freecs in round one, followed by a dominant 3-0 win over SANDBOX Gaming and another flawless 3-0 win against DAMWON Gaming earned SKT T1 a spot in the grand finals, where they were to clash with Griffin.

With momentum on their side, SKT T1 crushed Griffin in a spectacular fashion (3-1) to become the first team to win LCK eight times, further expanding their renown as the best Korean team in history of the game.

SK Telecom T1 defeated Griffin on July 28 to extended their winning streak to an impressive run of seven, reminding everybody why they are the most successful team in League of Legends esports history.

A fierce battle in the LCK Summer Split continues into week eight with seven teams fighting for spots in the playoffs. Only two points separate first from seventh, so the scene is set for a tight finish.

While still two wins short of league leaders DAMWON Gaming, SK Telecom T1 have found their rhythm since week four and now look like their former selves.

To say SKT had a tough start to the split would be an understatement, as Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and his crew found themselves in a 1-5 hole by the end of week three.

Things did not look bright for the three-time world champions; however, as all LoL esports fans should know by now, SKT are not to be underestimated.

The star-filled roster entered week four determined to show their worth, which is exactly what they did by defeating both KT Rolster and Gen.G with a perfect score of 2-0.

That was enough to get the wheels rolling for SKT, who have not lifted their foot off the gas since then. In the weeks that followed, they took down Hanwha Life Esports, Jin Air Green Wings, both KT Rolster and Gen.G for the second time and most recently Griffin to secure an impressive 7-0 win streak and a 8-5 record.

SKT started their clash against Griffin with a strong performance in match one, needing less than 34 minutes to destroy the opposition nexus. That was also the first match of the season Griffin lost despite holding a goal lead after 30 minutes.

Game two, however, ended in Griffin’s favor, as they required only 37 minutes to square the ledger. With that win, they also broke SKT’s streak of 13 wins in a row since week four.

Game three was close, but it was SKT who slowly built up their lead and piled the pressure on Griffin until they crumbled.

There was a lot of speculation about whether or not SKT could hang with the best following their less-than-impressive first three weeks, and the former world champs have given a decisive answer with their 2-1 win on Sunday.

However, SKT still have a lot to prove in the next two weeks when they battle Kingzone DragonX, Afreeca Freecs and Hanwha Life Esports for a spot in the LCK Summer playoffs.

League Champions Korea returns to our screens on July 25 with an exciting match between Gen.G and SKT T1, two of the hottest teams in the competition at the moment.

SKT had a short week six, with only one match on the schedule. Even that was against Jin Air Green Wings, who have managed only one win over the course of two splits.

While it should come as no surprise that the most successful team in LoL esports history defeated Green Wings, the match was closer than expected. Even so, SKT’s class shone through as they claimed two straight maps to extend their winning streak to five.

That result takes the three-time world champions to 6-5 and puts them just outside the playoff spots. They face a tough run home, however, with matches against Griffin, Kingzone DragonX, Afreeca Freecs, Hanwha Life Esports, and the top two teams DAMWON Gaming and SANDBOX Gaming in the final week.

That nightmare stretch begins with Gen.G, who have played exceptionally well in the last couple of weeks. Following their perfect 2-0 week five, when Gen.G defeated Griffin (2-0) and Hanwha Life Esports (2-0), they impressed once more with wins against SANDBOX (2-0) and Kingzone DragonX (2-1) last week to go 8-4 with a four-game winning streak.

A lot of credit for Gen.G’s sudden rise from a mid-table team to a playoff contender goes to their top laner Lee CuVee Seong-jin and mid laner Song Fly Yong-jun, as they have both stepped up for their team with a streak of great performances.

SEE ALSO: ESPORTS BETTING IN SOUTH KOREA

Like SKT, however, Gen.G are no guarantee to reach playoffs and have a tricky run of fixtures late in the split. After this, they must take on KT Rolster, who defeated them in week two, then Jin Air Green Wings, Griffin, Afreeca Freecs, and DAMWON Gaming on the final day.

Gen.G vs SKT betting predictions

Both teams will view this fixture as a must-win. The question is: which team can perform better under pressure? Or better yet, which team can use that pressure to their advantage?

When Gen.G met with SKT in week four, it was Faker and his crew who came out ahead with a dominant 2-0 win. It took them only 41 minutes to win the first map with an impressive 13-3 score and 18.2k gold lead, so the former world champs will take plenty of confidence into this week’s rematch.

BetOnline has SKT as -175.44 favourites to win, yet a blowout seems unlikely. Gen.G (+125) are in great form and will not go down as easily as last time. It is also worth noting that SKT have not played any top-six teams in their past three matches, whereas Gen.G took down the league leaders SANDBOX and third-placed Kingzone DragonX last week.

This one could easily go either way, which is why we wont be backing any side to win. Instead, we will put our money each team to win at least one map in a three-part thriller.

The opening match of Rift Rivals LCK-LPL-LMS-VCS will take place on July 4, 2019, when we will see the three-time world champions SK Telecom T1 go against the LMS Spring champions Flash Wolves.

Historically the most dominant team in League of Legends esports, T1 are enduring a rather up and down season. After an excellent showing at the LCK Spring Split, the South Koreans did not perform as well as they had hoped at the Mid-Season Invitational, where they had to admit defeat to eventual champions G2 Esports (2-3) in the semi-finals.

Four weeks into the LCK Summer Split, SKT T1 sit in seventh place with a 3-5 record and 35% win rate. While they started their campaign with a win against Jin Air Green Wings (2-0), SKT found themselves kneeling down to Afreeca Freecs (1-2) only two days later. That marked the beginning of a horror run that saw the Asian giants enter week four with five consecutive defeats to their name. They found their rhythm with wins over KT Rolster (2-0) and Gen.G (2-0), but the bitter taste of that losing streak lingers still.

Flash Wolves entered MSI 2019 with high hopes but failed to deliver, finishing the group stage in second-last place with only three wins. They defeated Phong Vu Buffalos (2-0) and even managed to grab a win from eventual finalists Team Liquid. So while Wolves ended up losing most of their matches, they left a mark nonetheless with some good performances against the better teams.

It is a similar story in the LMS Summer Split, where Wolves sit at the bottom of the table with a 1-5 record after three weeks. Although that looks like a dire form line, the truth is they have performed well but failed to close out matches.

Wolves played like champions in their most recent fixture against Alpha Esports, who had no answer to their opponents’ early aggression. In the match prior, however, the Taiwanese let a good lead slip in game one against Hong Kong Attitude and then conceded an ace in the 18th minute of game two to go down by a big margin.

SKT T1 vs Flash Wolves betting predictions

When SKT T1 and Flash Wolves met each other at MSI 2019, we saw a rather one-sided fixture that ended in favour of the Koreans. However, recent form suggests T1 will not have it so easy at Rift Rivals.

Flash Wolves do not have the best record either, but what they do have is the element of surprise. As a team that is known to approach games aggressively, they will try to grab an early lead against an SKT T1 side that prefers to open up late in the game. T1 are still favourites due to their star-filled roster and experience, but Wolves are not quite such underdogs as the odds suggest.

This one could go either way. SKT T1 might have a slight advantage, but the +300 odds on Flash Wolves are well worth the risk in a Bo1 match.

Betting Predictions for June 15

Jin Air Green Wings vs. Kingzone DragonX

Kingzones first games of the split showed that theyre more than willing to embrace the insanity of the new meta and play stuff like bot lane Mordekaiser. What leaves a bad taste in the mouths of their fans is the lightning-fast defeat to Gen.G, which nobody saw coming after Kingzone took a 1-0 lead. Can Jin Air make another upset against the champions?

Its tough to say if Kingzone will be up to more unconventional shenanigans after Gen.G dismantled them twice with fairly standard comps. Their starting jungler Peanut is also apparently out for the week after playing in the Asian Games qualifiers, so Cuzz is taking his spot for now. It will be on PraY and Bdd to carry them, and while Jin Air are a good team, theyre not individually up to par with Kingzone. Unless Teddy makes some miracle plays for the Green Wings, Kingzone DragonX should be looking to grab their first series win here.

Chance of winning: JAG 20%, KZ 80%
Betting prediction: Kingzone DragonX to win Map 1, paying -454.55 at BetOnline.

Gen.G vs. SK Telecom T1

It looks like the name change did very good for Gen.G, as they surprisingly performed extremely well in their first match against Kingzone. SKT, on the other side, are not looking too healthy, having lost to Afreeca Freecs in their opening fixture, and will be looking to bounce back against one of their main rivals over the past years.

Gen.G decided to play with their substitute mid laner Fly against KZ, and it paid off as the returnee from NA brought them the playmaking potential they lacked in Spring. Their sub jungler Haru also had a great time in the new meta, making a substantial difference in the early game. Thats where SKTs main issue lies C Blank is not a proactive early game jungler, and in a meta where early game means almost everything, hes going to have a hard time. They still have Faker who can certainly be their hard-carry if played around, so ruling them out completely would be too harsh, but I think Gen.G can and will beat them this time.

Chance of winning: GEN 70%, SKT 30%
Betting prediction: Gen.G to win, paying +100 at BetOnline.

Betting Predictions for June 13

Kingzone DragonX vs. Gen.G

After a disappointing MSI where they were convincingly beaten by Chinas RNG in the finals, the champions of Korea return to the domestic league to face Gen.G. The world champs have had an even worse 2018, ending fifth in Spring and making a few interesting roster additions for the upcoming split.

RNG found out what no Korean team managed to discover: Kingzone are bad at playing from behind. They got repeatedly stomped after falling behind in the early game, which was surely pleasing to watch for their domestic competitors. Getting ahead in the first 15 minutes could be where Gen.G will be aiming, but thats where their problems lay all year. Gen.G, then KSV, were one of the worst early game teams in the entire league, and unless Ambition and Crown have changed their habits substantially, I dont see them getting a lead. Actually, if Gen.G play as spinelessly as they did by the end of Spring, I fully expect Kingzone to stomp them into the ground.

Betting prediction: Kingzone DragonX to win, paying -500 at BetOnline.

Afreeca Freecs vs. SK Telecom T1

The long-standing rivalry between Afreeca and SKT looked a bit different last split, as SKT played the role of the underdog while the Freecs fought for the title. With no changes to either teams squads, itll be interesting to see if SKT can finally get a series win over a top team.

Afreeca looked extremely solid in Spring, being the clear second-best team after the untouchable Kingzone. Playing a wide variety of styles, from the classic splitpush strategies to the risky triple-threat compositions, definitely brings them an advantage in the draft, as all of their players can step up and carry. SKTs jungle tragedy still hasnt come to an end, as their choice is still between starting Blank and Blossom, who were both in terrible form for nearly the entire Spring. Unless Faker is back to his Unkillable Demon King form (which is quite possible, to be honest), Afreeca definitely have the upper hand in this interesting matchup.

Betting prediction: Afreeca Freecs to win, paying -138.89 at BetOnline.

KT Rolster vs. Jin Air Green Wings

Another split without a title for KT. The superteam in white faltered in the semifinals once again, after another good, but not top-tier regular season for such an expensive and talented team. They will be looking to start a new grueling battle for Worlds against Jin Air, who got a new support and brought in a former world class jungler to refresh their squad.

KT are slowly but surely resolving their synergy-related issues, but are starting to see some individual ones. PawN is definitely not fit enough to play, and the young Ucal has taken the starting mid laner role permanently. Deft has had a rough split, and its less common to see KT smashing the early game now than it was last year. Jin Air, on the other hand, will probably try to putt all their eggs into the Teddy basket and hope the prodigy ADC carries them to victory again. Even weakened as they might be, KT are still good enough to take down Jin Air.

Betting prediction:KT Rolster to win, paying -357.14 at BetOnline.

Round 2 of League Champions Korea playoffs brings us a new, full-scale BO5 Telecom War. SKT T1 managed to take down KSV in a tight wildcard match last week, and they have been rewarded with a chance to prove themselves against a much stronger, on paper, opponent. KT are one of this splits three main heavyweights, and along with Afreeca Freecs and the untouchable Kingzone form the trinity most likely to win the league.

SK Telecom T1 strategy and analysis

The match against KSV, although not a display of impeccable gameplay by any means, showed that SKT was able to work out some of their long-standing issues. The main surprise compared to the expectations was the fantastic performance of their rookie top laner. Thal simply stomped world champion CuVee in lane in all three games, having an average lead of over 400 gold at ten minutes. In addition to that, his Cassiopeia worked very well in teamfights, and it seems that SKT have finally figured out how to unlock the young player.

Blank has also shown improvement compared to his previous form, and it seems that the newly discovered Trundle works great with his style, and adds a new power pick to his limited champion pool. Bang had an excellent series, showing that his Kaisa is very strong, and also demonstrating how to carry on the safe and defensive Ezreal. SKTs main weakness lies in the support role, where Effort and Wolf cant seem to get more than one good game in a row, and it was also a surprise to see Faker perform well under his abilities. SKTs legend has to seriously look at his positioning mistakes, because a team as individually strong as KT will not let those slide.

KT Rolster strategy and analysis

KT, on the other hand, is finally looking like something more than just a bunch of superstars without synergy. Occasional team-related slip-ups still happen, but all of the members are mostly on the same page, which makes their teamfighting almost perfect. A strong early game is also KTs huge asset, especially in the bot lane, where Deft and Mata are likely to significantly reduce Bangs chances of carrying his team. Thal will also have a hard time going against Smeb, but if he pops off again, the duel might be more interesting.

KTs jungler, however, might be their biggest advantage over SKT, considering how good Score is at reading his opponents pathing. KTs captain is once again one of the strongest junglers in the world, and if his form is matched with a good draft phase to take Zac and Trundle away from Blank, they will have a clear upside in the matchup. Rolsters rookie mid laner Ucal has also been on a rampage recently, and if his aggressive plays go awry, the safer and more support-oriented PawN will be ready on KTs bench.

Prediction and best bet

Looking at the current state of both teams, it is clear that KT is a favourite in this match. SKT are known to be great at adapting and taking home clutch BO5 victories, but their upcoming opponents are just much stronger in terms of pure player quality. Unless coach kKoma, Bang or Faker do something extraordinary, the white side sould take the win in this splits Telecom War.
