The qualifiers will run from January 8 to January 27 and feature open and closed qualifiers in eight different regions. Europe’s open qualifiers will be held from January 8 to January 15, while the closed qualifiers and deciders will occur between January 18 to January 21.

The South and North American regional qualifiers will be held on similar dates in addition to most Asian regional events. After closed qualifiers, the three RMRs in America, Europe, and Asia will kick off.

The PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen will be the first Major in Counter-Strike 2, the newest iteration of the Valve first-person shooter game. It is set to begin on March 17, 2024, after the conclusion of the regional RMRs.

CS:GO teams still have over six months to go before the qualifiers kick off, giving them ample time to organize their squads and get used to Counter-Strike 2.

The new version will be released this summer; however, there is no confirmed date for the launch. Valve has not given any updates on the game yet, fueling speculations that CS2 could be delayed.

PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen RMRs will be held in February except in the Americas region, where it starts on March 1 to March 4.

Heroic’s Danish roster consisted of Rasmus “sjuush” Beck, René “TeSeS” Madsen, Ismail “refrezh” Ali, Martin “stavn” Lund and led by the 26-year old Casper “cadiaN” M?ller. NaVi started the game against Heroic rather poorly as they were behind after the opening map. Heroic’s pick of their all too familiar Inferno, showed why they had defeated NaVi in the RMR. Despite tying the game 10-10 with NaVi winning the pistol, Heroic decimated NaVi to finish off the map at 16-10 with TeSeS and cadiaN pulling 1v2 clutches.

With the second map being NaVi’s pick, the Ukrainian esports franchise went with Ancient. A pick they had recorded a 100% win rate on, having won 10 of 10 and they did not disappoint against Heroic, thereby extending their winning streak.

While NaVi led in the first half, Heroic started the second half winning 5 rounds to take the lead 11-9. But NaVi retaliated, winning 6 of the next 7 rounds to reclaim the lead 15-12 and eventually closed out the map winning 16-14 to tie the series.

The decider being Nuke was no new experience for both teams as Heroic had defeated NaVi on Nuke in the RMR, and made a caricature of their defense. But their experience on Nuke in the PGL has been very different, most noteworthy was the fixture against Spirit.

NaVi had a dominating first half, leading Heroic 12-3 with some major wins around a CT-sided half. s1mple led his team to victory by the end of the map with a headshot kill on cadiaN and a 1v2 clutch as they finished the map 16-8.

NaVi cannot boast of being the best team nor the most confident, but they have managed to stick to the basics and be able to win when it matters the most. The Ukrainian team was not performing at their top level as they are known for.

Even s1mple recognized that and admitted he has not been at his best, stating that he needed to ‘step up’ while admitting he is being carried by his team. He revealed that he overthinks and tries to predict something smart the opponent might be up to but ends up being wrong while the opponent sticks to something usually normal.

“I need to step up, my team is carrying me,” s1mple said. “Sometimes I overthink what the opponents will do. I think they’ll do something smart, and sometimes, they just do something normal.”

In the other quarterfinal fixtures, FaZe Clan got the better of Ninjas in Pyjamas and secured their spot in the semifinals. But the latter did not take the loss on their backs as they forced a third map, winning their pick – Overpass in map 2.

ENCE and Spirit both swept their opponents to advance to the semis, showing their dominance. The greatest Brazilian esports team FURIA was shown the back door by Spirit as they knocked them off even on their favorite map pick Vertigo. Devastating for FURIA, having lost to Gambit in the quarterfinals in Stockholm.

The North American team took to the social media platform Twitter to announce some of the changes they are making to their roster. With the publication, the team revealed that they have relieved two of their coaching staff of their duties, while the head coach Damien “maLeK” Marcel has been relegated to a non-active role.

According to the release, the French man has been granted permission to discuss his options with other teams, if he so chooses.

“It’s no secret that performances have not met expectations since the start of the year. Because of that, we’ve made the tough decision to move CS: GO Head Coach Damien “maLeK” Marcel to a non-active role and have permitted him to begin exploring new options for his career. We have also parted ways with assistant coach Paolo “EVY” Berbudeau and analyst Juan “Hepa” Borges and thank them for their hard work during their time with Evil Geniuses.”

Based on the promised update in the memo, more movement is expected from the newly-constructed roster. Every member of this roster was acquired at the start of the year, with the head coach being the first to join the team.

Marcel left G2 Esports in November 2021 after spending three years with the organization. His greatest achievement with the team was a Grand Final appearance in the 2021 PGL Stockholm. Unfortunately, they got swept by Natus Vincere after what was a hard-fought final.

Evil Geniuses finished 15 in the Legends Stage of the 2021 PGL Stockholm, and the plan was to improve coming into the new year. Sadly, that did not turn out as expected despite the big-name signings they made at the beginning of 2022.

They signed Jacky “Stewie2k” Yip, who was then with team Liquid. Through the course of his playing career, the 24-year-old American won the ELEAGUE Boston Major in 2018 and season 2 of the IEM Grand Slam.

RUSH was another champion the team brought in to bolster their ranks. He was a member of the Complexity Gaming team that reached the 2020 BLAST Premier Global Final.

EG failed to qualify for the 2022 Antwerp Major, which was the catalyst for the impending change. After a 3-2 finish in the Swiss Stage of the America Regional Major Ranking, they had a chance to qualify for the Antwerp Major as contenders but blew it. They lost 2-1 to 9z Team in the eighth-place match with a 16-14 loss on Overpass being the decider.

Nonetheless, there is no telling how far the team would have gone in the Antwerp Major because they did not look formidable throughout the regional rankings.

As things stand, the chances of EG participating in the 2022 World Final are ridiculously slim. However, if they manage to win either the Fall Finals or ESL Pro League Season 16, they will get direct seeding to the event.

The esports organization has hinted that there will be updates in the coming weeks, which suggests that they could announce the departure of more team members. However, they will surely make announcements regarding their roster as they will be looking to fill the roles that are currently vacant.

Reacting to their exit, Fnatic took to their Twitter page to express their regret and apologize to their fans. While they acknowledged the pain attached to not qualifying for the Major, they promised to ‘get back to the top.’

Their run at the RMR started off with a win over Gamer Legion in a best of one matchup. Afterwhich they suffered two consecutive losses to Heroic and SAW. In order to make it through to PGL Antwerp, they needed to win two straight series.

The opening maps against Eternal Fire were split between both teams, as Fnatic hoped for a win in the third map. Eternal Fire’s ?smailсan “XANTARES” D?rtkarde?, who was a former player for BIG had a superb performance in the third map on Overpass. He led Eternal Fire to seven straight victory rounds, winning the third map 16-13 over Fnatic.

Going by their poor performances in the past years, Fnatic has become a shadow of itself. Once perceived as one of the biggest CS:GO team, having won three Major trophies: the DreamHack Winter 2013, ESL One: Katowice 2015, and ESL One: Cologne 2015.

They have attempted to rebuild with the signing of new players. Asides from Freddy “KRIMZ” Johansson, Fnatic roster consisting of Alexander “ALEX” McMeekin, William “mezii” Merriman, Valentin “poizon” Vasilev, Peppe “Peppzor” Borak and Jamie “keita” Hall, were all acquired in less than a year. But a lot seems amiss with the group.

Their qualification was guaranteed after a mauling of paiN, who was their only obstacle from reaching the Major. Impressive performances from Franco “dgt” Garcia, David “dav1d” Maldonado, and Luca “Luken” Nadotti made the difference for 9z.

The South American mix was determined to extend their winning streak to five series’ and they achieved that with a sweep. They had their way with paiN on Mirage, but it was a different story on Dust2.

PaiN was determined to not go down easy, forcing overtime in an attempt to steal a map. However, 9z maintained perfect composure and closed out the game 19-17. Although they were the heavy esports betting favorites on GGbet esport bookmaker with a moneyline odd of $1.14, their victory did not come easy.

Imperial Esports, Complexity Gaming, and Team Liquid are the three other teams that made the cut, finishing ahead of 9z in chronological order.

Complexity, Liquid, and 9z will compete in the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 Contenders Stage, while Imperial and MIBR will compete in the Challengers stage. Added to their $25,000 share of the prize pool, FURIA will compete in the Legends Stage.

The tournament will kick off May 9, with 24 teams fighting for a piece of the $1,000,000 prize pool and points for the Pro Tour and BLAST Premier.

Imperial and Party Astronauts came into the game with a 2-1 record each, with PartyAstro snatching wins over Leviatan and Case Esports after suffering an early loss to Isurus.

The Brazilian boys from MiBR have been in some red hot form in the last month, where they haven’t finished outside the top two in any tournament and they won the NA Challenger League Season 40 undefeated with 11 wins and zero losses through the regular season and playoffs. They also won the ESEA Spring 2022 NA Cash Cup and their PGL Major Antwerp South American Qualifier to gain access into this event.

As it stands going into this series against their Brazilian rivals, MiBR are on an 11 series win streak and over their last three months have a 75.8% win rate. MiBR are 3-0 so far, but they been in a lot of close and drawn-out series. Their largest win on any map has been 16-8 in the second map of their BO3 against Imperial. MiBR will have to bring their ESEA Challenger League Season 40 form if they expect to be any chance against this rampant FURIA team.

Betting outsiders FURIA may not have the massive win streak or win rate that MiBR owns and that is purely based on the level of Counter Strike that FURIA has been involved in. FURIA participated in two S-Tier events being IEM Katowice 2022 and ESL Pro League and they were also in one A-Tier event being ESL Challenger #48 in the last 3 months. Even though FURIA has competed in much better events than MiBR, they still have some very good results at those events. The Brazilians were able to finish 9th -12th at IEM Katowice, 2nd in the ESL Challenger #48 and 3rd – 4th at their most recent event, the ESL Pro League.

The eighth ranked team in the world have the best round difference at this RMR. FURIA have been the most impressive and best overall roster during this event so far. If MiBR are going to challenge FURIA and be any chance against this roster they will need to be at their very best come Thursday night.

They lost to FURIA (16-4) and Party Astronauts (16-11), both of whom are well ahead in the world rankings and expected to go further than Leviatan. One positive that Leviatan can take from the Americas RMR is that they were able to push Party Astronauts to the 27th round and they will gain more experience against some really good rosters.

Team oNe and Leviatan will be hoping that they can get the win in this series and continue through the RMR, but we see this contest being quite one-sided. Team oNe will not want to finish 0-3 and be knocked out of the Americas RMR, considering their ranking coming into the tournament.
