Gen.G had been a powerhouse throughout 2024, built around the incredible talent of Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon.
They won the LCK Spring title and dominated the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), defeating Bilibili Gaming.
Gen.G’s 17-1 record in the LCK Summer Split made them the overwhelming favourites to complete the rare and coveted LoL grand slamwinning both domestic splits and MSI.
In the upper bracket final, they handily beat HLE 3-1, reinforcing their dominance and seemingly cruising towards another title.
HLE, meanwhile, had steadily improved over the course of the year.
Though they finished third in the spring behind T1, they showed progress throughout the season, culminating in a strong playoff run.
HLE even defeated Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and T1 in the lower bracket to earn another chance at Gen.G in the grand final.
Despite their resurgence, HLE entered the series as underdogs, with Gen.G heavily favoured to complete the golden road.
HLE took the first blow, winning a tightly contested first game.
Gen.G responded in championship form, taking the next two games and putting themselves on the verge of another title.
But HLE roared back, decisively winning the fourth game to force a game five.
In the deciding match, Kim “Zeka” Geon-woos Yone dominated Chovys Corki in the midlane, securing HLEs victory and the 2024 LCK Summer Championship.
Zekas performance earned him the Finals MVP title, marking his first LCK championship.

— LCK (@LCK) September 8, 2024
The victory was especially poignant for HLEs Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, and Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joongthree players who had been part of Gen.G just a year earlier.
In a twist of fate, they were the ones to halt Gen.G’s golden road.
Peanut, now HLEs star jungler, made history by becoming the first jungler to win seven LCK championships.
Reflecting on his journey in a post-match interview, he recalled winning his first title eight years ago with ROX Tigers.
Zeka, in his first LCK title win, acknowledged how his past struggles against Chovywho held a dominant 16-1 record against him before this serieshad fueled his growth.
“The process of losing against Chovy up until this day is what allowed me to win today,” he remarked.
For Gen.G, this loss ended their dreams of a perfect year.
However, their journey is far from over.
As they set their sights on LoL Worlds 2024, they will aim to regroup and reclaim their status on the international stage.
Despite the bitter defeat, Gen.Gs spring and summer dominance still cements them as a formidable force.
This upset marked the second consecutive year that a team came tantalisingly close to achieving the elusive grand slamlast year it was JD Gaming from the LPL, and this time, Gen.G.
Their defeat underscores the unpredictability and excitement of competitive League of Legends.
With the LCK Regional Finals on the horizon, teams like T1 will now battle for the remaining Worlds spots.
But for now, the LCK crown belongs to Hanwha Life Esports, who dethroned the reigning champions in a dramatic, unforgettable series.
As the 2024 World Championship approaches, fans can expect even more surprises, upsets, and electrifying moments on the international stage.

]]>Hanwha Life Esports got paired with T1 for the second round of League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) 2024 Summer Playoffs. Yet despite T1’s history in LCK playoffs, they enter this match priced as underdogs with the top League of Legends betting sites.
T1 closed as underdogs at -112.36 in their last meeting with Hanwha Life Esports during the regular season and -142.86 favourites in the LCK 2024 Spring Playoffs series. Now, the Esports World Cup 2024 champions hold much longer odds, at +154, giving them a 39.4% implied probability of winning the series.
That isn’t shocking, considering T1 haven’t had the best run over the last few weeks. Even in their victory over KT Rolster in the first round of the playoffs, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok and co. showed very little.
T1 outperformed KT Rolster on the third and fourth maps, but they had some hiccups, making it evident that T1 need to sort some things out if they want a real run against Hanwha Life Esports this week. All this sounds highly concerning, but we know that T1 can switch on at any time, so it would not be too shocking to see them find traction on Thursday.
Hanwha Life Esports made a name for themselves as a squad who will run over any weaker team but consistently struggle against the elite few C due to their counter-punching playstyle. However, they put that theory under a question mark this split by producing competitive games against Gen.G, T1, and Dplus KIA.
Some of it had to do with the fact that Dplus KIA and T1 have not been in the best shape; however, it is not like much has changed. Nevertheless, it still does not sound right seeing Hanwha Life Esports priced as -204.08 favourites for this match.
Betting against T1 is hoping they will not wake up which can happen, like it did in the past playoffs. So, while Hanwha Life Esports deserve respect for what they have shown this split, T1 at the offered LoL betting odds are very hard to pass on.
A smaller position on T1 to win with at least two maps to spare is also worth a look.

]]>The final weeks of the summer split in each of the top four regional League of Legends leagues will take place over the next fortnight.
With the LPL and LEC concluding on August 30 and September 1, respectively, it will leave the LCK and LCS as the last two splits to finish before the LoL World Championship kicks off on September 25.
Weibo Gaming (WBG) and Bilibili Gaming (BLG) will face off in the grand final of the LPL Summer Playoffs. BLG can cement their claim as the best team from China, and WBG can qualify for LoL Worlds with an upset victory.
BLG swept WBG 3-0 when these two met in the upper bracket semi-final, and they are expected to repeat that performance in the final, with esports betting sites marking them as a -833.33 favourite.
The LPL Regional Finals will take place the following week, with JD Gaming, LNG Esports and Ninjas in Pyjamas awaiting the fourth team to join them in the last chance stage.

Following their wins in the quarter-finals, Dplus KIA and T1 have joined Gen.G and Hanwha Life Esports in the double-elimination playoff bracket.
With only one defeat to their name throughout the LCK Summer split, Gen.G are considered heavy favourites to take out the summer title.
If Gen.G takes out the title, T1, Hanwha Life Esports, Dplus KIA, KT Rolster and FearX will clash in the LCK Regional Finals for the last three World Championship spots in the Korean league.

Team Liquid have dominated the LCS Summer split, finishing the regular season with a 7-0 record before winning their way into the upper bracket final in the first week of the playoffs.
Cloud9, 100 Thieves and Dignitas will seek to claim the final Worlds spot by finishing in the top three, due to Liquid and FlyQuest already qualifying for the season-ending event.

The LEC Season Finals will take place on the weekend, with MAD Lions KOI clashing with G2 Esports on August 31 to earn the right to meet Fnatic in the grand final on Sunday, September 1.
Each of the remaining teams are already qualified for LoL Worlds; however, the winner of the Season Finals will enter Worlds as the high seed for the region.

Dplus KIA took care of business on Thursday when they defeated OKSavingsBank BRION to secure their 12th victory of the split. After a rough start the first map, the second was much closer to what was expected from Dplus KIA.
Despite their immense potential and quality, Dplus KIA have been a bit inconsistent with high highs and low lows. Lack of consistency is also KT Rolster’s issue, although they tend to step up when challenged.
With side choice, Dplus KIA should be in a fine spot to win, but their -256.41 odds look far too short. KT Rolster produced their best game of the split last Friday, and they did not look too bad in the 2-0 sweep of DRX on Wednesday, so they might be worth a bet to win a map at -163.93 with LoL betting sites.

By edging past Kwangdong Freecs on Wednesday, T1 secured their spot in the LCK 2024 Summer Playoffs, which might relieve some pressure and inspire better performances. But that is one big ‘if’, as T1 have not looked even remotely like themselves lately.
By contrast, BNK FearX have looked great over the second half of the split, as they’ve played with confidence and shown solid decision-making. Individually, BNK FearX are still a tier below T1, but one could argue the underdogs are in a better spot despite their loss to Hanwha Life Esports on Thursday.
BNK FearX defeated T1 in Week 5 of LCK 2024 Summer, which was just at the time when they started gaining traction. As not much has changed since, another underdog victory is not beyond the realms of possibility.

With their loss against T1 on Wednesday, Kwangdong Freecs are eliminated from the LCK 2024 Summer playoff race. They have had some good series throughout the split but fell off towards the end, consistently coming up short in more challenging games.
DRX were cut from chasing playoffs long ago and have not given us many reasons to feel excited about them. On Wednesday, they suffered their fourth consecutive loss against KT Rolster, failing to show any improvements in critical areas — namely their macro.
This is a clash between two teams with nothing left to fight for. But even if we consider that a win or a loss for Kwangdong Freecs doesn’t mean much, they are a far better side and a solid bet at +110 to sweep with top LoL betting sites.

Nongshim RedForce took down T1 on Friday and added a solid showing against Dplus KIA at the end of LCK 2024 Summer Week 8. While those are excellent results on paper, T1 and Dplus KIA played terribly, so we can not praise RedForce too much.
Gen.G seemed unstoppable until last week, when they fell to KT Rolster in a competitive three-map series. Although it was a painful defeat, the defending champions were far from disgraced.
Nongshim RedForce made their presence known last week, but they are still a bottom-tier team who will crumble against Gen.G. And knowing RedForce tend to get run over in their losses, taking under 23.5 kills for the opening map is a wise choice.

KT Rolster have produced a very confusing mix of results over the last two weeks, with wins against Hanwha Life Esports and Gen.G and two defeats against OKSavingsBank BRION and Kwangdong Freecs. But as puzzling as they might be, those are the most on-brand results for KT Rolster, who perform well as huge underdogs and collapse as massive favourites.
Following this trend, KT Rolster do not inspire confidence at -714.29 with top LoL betting sites. Also, the new patch has introduced some volatility and shifts in the priority of champions, so it is fair to expect DRX to do better than expected.
DRX were blasted by Hanwha Life Esports in their previous outing, but that was primarily because of how HLE like to play. At 12.6 kills and 12 deaths per game on average, Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon and co. are not as bloody and, hence, less likely to win with a higher kill margin.

Kwangdong Freecs lost a very competitive series against BNK FearX on Saturday, which puts them in danger of missing out on the LCK 2024 Summer playoffs. It was still a solid showing from KDF, who entered the series on a two-game winning streak after beating Nongshim RedForce and KT Rolster.
T1 swept OKSavingsBank BRION on Sunday, but they lost to Nongshim RedForce two days prior in one of their worst series of the entire 2024 season. Some of it had to do with the volatility that comes with a new patch, but it was not the first concerning game T1 have produced this split.
After what the LCK 2024 Spring runners-up have produced over the last few weeks, it is tough to justify backing them in this contest — especially considering Kwangdong Freecs will have side choice. A smaller position on KDF to win is worth a look, but it is hard to ignore plus money for the underdogs to win a map.

The rule with KT Rolster is to fade them as big favourites and back them as underdogs. However, betting against Gen.G looks like a sure way to lose, as they are on a 15-game winning streak in league play and have yet to drop a series in the LCK 2024 Summer.
KT Rolster are +640 underdogs, which gives them just a 13.5% implied probability of winning the series. This is incredibly low, but considering their showings against Kwangdong Freecs and OKSavingsBank BRION over the last two rounds, it is fair to question KTs chances to defeat the hottest team in the league.
Gen.G are efficient in running over teams that do not do well in the early game, which we should see in effect on Friday. And with side choice, the LCK title favourites will likely close out the first map without spilling too much blood.

T1 seem to have stabilised over the last two weeks and put themselves in a good position to defeat Gen.G on Saturday. The game ended in a crushing 0-2 loss, but it was a significant improvement and T1 should have won the first map.
Nongshim RedForce are the opposite in terms of where theyre trending. RedForces quality has fallen over the season, with some glaring issues — namely their abysmal early game.
Nongshim RedForce should have done much better — but not by much, as this squad is still low on individual quality. This series should end in a comfortable victory for T1, and knowing RedForce usually get smoked in losses, taking kill unders on both maps at -116.28 with LoL betting sites makes a lot of sense.

The last time these teams squared off, Hanwha Life Esports won with 15-9 and 19-6 in kills and a 9,000 and 18,000 gold lead on the two maps, respectively. According to the latest LoL betting odds, the rematch should be just as one-sided.
Hanwha Life Esports had a bit of a hiccup at the start of LCK 2024 Summer Week 7 when they were humiliated by KT Rolster, but that does not take away from their strong results over the last few weeks. OKSavingsBank BRION are quite the opposite, having struggled for most of the split, yet they swept KT Rolster on Sunday.
The teams stats prove Hanwha Life Esports are a far superior squad, and they are known for doing well against weaker opponents. Since BRION rarely put up a fight in losses, even the relatively high kill handicap is an inviting bet for Hanwha Life Esports on their map pick.

Dplus KIA have been on the brink of breaking into the group of elite LCK teams for this entire split. But despite their dominant map performances, they seem unable to get over the line when faced with the likes of Hanwha Life Esports, Gen.G, and T1.
BNK FearX are not considered one of the top contenders in LCK, but theyre 5-1 over the last four series, with just one loss against Gen.G and two promising victories against KT Rolster and T1. This is not enough to jump to conclusions, yet FearX have looked outstanding over the past month.
Betting against Dplus KIA is always a bit tricky, as they can defeat anyone. But consistency has not been their strong suit this split, so a smaller position on BNK FearX to win a map at -133.33 with top LoL betting sites is worth a look.

Gen.G kept their winning streak alive on Saturday when they defeated T1 in two maps. It was another game which should not have ended with such a one-sided score, but we can give Gen.G props for their excellent defensive play.
DRX were smashed by BNK FearX on Saturday, proving once more they are not equipped to play at a high level. Their performance stats prove it, including the leagues lowest average kills per game (8.7), tower plates per game (2.84), and third-lowest dragons per game (1.58).
Assuming Gen.G dont play with their food too much, they should steamroll DRX, which should result in a lower-scoring game. Under 23.5 total kills is a smart play.

KT Rolster achieved the unthinkable in LCK 2024 Summer Week 7 when they upset Hanwha Life Esports with a superb showing. But KT quickly proved how untrustworthy they are as favourites, losing 0-2 to OKSavingsBank BRION in the last round.
Kwangdong Freecs have looked very shaky over the first half of the split, but they found some traction last week with a 1-2 loss to Dplus KIA and a 2-0 sweep of Nongshim RedForce. There is some pulse with this squad, yet Kwangdong Freecs still have a lot more to prove.
KT Rolster are the stronger team, but at -303.03, theyre a bit overrated. Kwangdong Freecs will also have side choice, which makes them an appealing bet on the map handicap market.

Nongshim RedForce took a map from KT Rolster on Sunday but still lost, marking their third defeat over a four-game stretch. Now, at 3-9, Nongshim RedForce likely will not see the playoffs, and there is little to suggest their run through LCK 2024 Summer will improve significantly.
Hanwha Life Esports’ seven-game winning streak came to a screeching stop on Wednesday when they were humiliated by KT Rolster. While that loss did sting, it does not suggest HLE are in danger of losing to Nongshim RedForce.
KT Rolster punished Hanwha Life Esports’ counter-punching playstyle, which Nongshim RedForce, with their macro, shouldn’t be able to do. With an average of 15.7 deaths per game, Nongshim will struggle to keep this game close.

Kwangdong Freecs lost all four series in the previous two weeks of LCK action, going down to OKSavingsBank BRION, Gen.G and twice to Hanwha Life Esports. The latter two are not that worrying, but Kwangdong Freecs have not looked very competitive in any of their games since the start of the split.
Dplus KIA lost another close game on Wednesday against T1, continuing a trend of playing exceptionally well only to fall short. This has become concerning, but their performance numbers remain very good.
Despite their shaky record against other elite teams, Dplus KIA are very efficient in beating lesser squads. LoL betting sites are paying -147.06 for the favourites to sweep, and it is an easy bet to take.
