]]>DETONA Gaming and Isurus Gaming will duke it out for a ticket to ESL Pro League Season 12 this Thursday in a best-of-five (Bo5) series at the South American qualifiers.
Since the turn of the year, DETONA have made a few drastic roster changes. In January, the Brazilian esports organisation signed Filipe “fP1” de Caires, who ended up leaving the team shortly after DETONA parted ways with Matheus “prt” Scuvero in March. Fast forward to May, DETONA lost two more core members in Matheus “Tuurtle” Anhaia and in-game leader André “tiburci0” Rossetto, which ushered a roster rebuild early in June with the signing of Counter-Strike veteran Renato “nak” Nakano and two unproven talents in Guilherme “piriaz1n” Barbosa and Romeu “zevy” Rocco.
Since putting together their new CS:GO roster, DETONA have played six matches at the C-Tier Gamers Club Redragon Challenge. There, nak and co. lost the opening match against BOOM Esports but bounced back with two solid performances against Keyd Stars (2-1) and Cream Real Betis Latam (2-0). Despite their relative success in the group stage and a clean sweep against W7M Gaming (2-0) in the upper bracket quarter-finals, DETONA lost to Isurus (0-2) and Sharks Esports (1-2) to end the event in fifth-sixth place.
DETONA played well considering their roster was assembled less than two weeks ago. There are still a few issues, namely Lucas “Lucaozy” Neves’ inconsistent performances, but piriaz1n and zevy have shown a lot of promise.

Isurus Gaming are priced as favourites for this match, which is not surprising when you compare their form to that of DETONA. That might have something to do with roster stability, as the Argentine side have made only one change to their active squad since January.
Since Isurus acquired Caike “caike” Costa at the start of June, they have played four games and won three of them. They topped their group at the Redragon Challenge, defeating GAN$O$ (2-0) and Soberano Team (2-0), and followed that up with playoff wins against RED Canids (2-0), DETONA (2-0) and BOOM Esports (2-0) in the upper bracket finals. They fell just short in the grand finals, however, as BOOM Esports got the better of them with a narrow 3-2 win.
Although Isurus hold a poor 42.9% win rate across the last three months, their performances have significantly improved of late. Since the start of April, they have played 14 games, won six, drawn four and lost four. Only BOOM Esports and RED Canids have beaten Isurus in that stretch.
Isurus Gaming should be confident after downing DETONA last Friday in the upper bracket semi-finals at the Redragon Challenge. The match, however, was not as one-sided as the final result would appear to suggest.
Isurus won the first map, Mirage, with a surprisingly strong performance on CT-side, which earned them a 12-3 lead by the end of the first half. Although DETONA put up solid resistance after the swap, Isurus were too far ahead and did enough to close out a 16-8 win.
The second map, Train, was extremely close. DETONA had a good opportunity to win that map and even held a 13-12 lead at one stage, but they failed to deliver on CT-side as Isurus sealed the series with a 16-14 win.
Lucaozy and zevy both played well with 1.21 and 1.10 ratings respectively, but poor performances from nak (0.76) and piriaz1n (0.82) made it hard for DETONA to remain competitive.
Isurus seem like the better team here, but they did not show enough in that series for us to consider the -1.5 handicap. DETONA are not as bad as the odds suggest and should at least keep this one close.

]]>The race for a ticket to Moche XL Esports 2020 and R$65,000 (~ US $14,000) continues with Round 3 of CLUTCH Season 2, where we will see DETONA Gaming and RED Canids duke it out on the battlefield in a bid to keep their unbeaten streaks alive.
DETONA got off to a strong start at CLUTCH Season 2, with a commanding win against Soberano in the opening contest of the season. The match was expected to be fairly one-sided, however André “tiburci0” Rossetto and co. went above and beyond all expectations and completely trashed their adversaries with 16-3 on Nuke and 16-4 on Train. Unfortunately, DETONA failed to carry the momentum over into Round 2, where they produced a rather underwhelming stalemate (1-1) against Alma, who clinched a point with a 19-17 overtime win on Train.
Since their draw with Alma, DETONA made an appearance at FLASHPOINT Season 1: LAN Qualifier, but failed to see much success, as they were ineffective in their climb out of the group stage. Although DETONA started strong with a 16-11 win over BIG, they had to admit defeat to Pujan “FNS” Mehta’s stack Orgless and later suffered a 0-2 loss in their rematch with the German squad in the decider match, thus crashed out from the event at fifth-sixth place.
Following their unsuccessful attempt at securing a spot at FLASHPOINT, DETONA will seek comfort with a win over their rivals RED Canids, who unlike DETONA enjoyed a much more fruitful schedule in March.

RED Canids began their venture into CLUTCH Season 2 with a stalemate against Keyd Stars, who started the series by handing Canids a upset 14-16 loss on Vertigo. Keyd Stars, however, were unable to seal the deal, as they suffered a blowout loss on Train (2-16), which allowed Canids to secure their first point of the season.
With a somewhat underwhelming draw under their belt, Renato “nak” Nakano and his squad made sure to bounce back with a 2-0 win over Isurus in Round 2 thanks Bruno “latto” Rebelatto who put up an impressive 1.43 rating across the series with +20 KD.
RED Canids carried their momentum over to Americas Minor South America Closed Qualifier – ESL One Rio 2020 where they looked strong right out of the gates and secured a convincing 2-0 win over W7M Gaming. Canids continued with their dominance in semi-finals, where they eliminated Team One and repeated their success from CLUTCH with another 2-0 win over Isurus to secure a ticket for Rio 2020 Americas Minor Championship.
Latto once again proved his worth during America Closed Qualifier – ESL One Rio 2020, with 1.41 rating and +24 KD against Team One, followed by 1.68 rating and +18 KD against Isurus.
DETONA will enter Round 3 of CLUTCH Season 2 with a 1-1-3 record in their last five fixtures, meanwhile, RED Canids are holding onto a perfect 5-0 record. Although DETONA played much stronger teams, namely BIG and Orgless, the momentum is on Canids’ side, and that alone should give them an edge over their adversaries.
As for players’ ratings throughout the opening two rounds of CLUTCH Season 2, DETONA are averaging 1.276 rating, which is 0.202 higher compared to their player’s average since January. RED Canids’ members, on the other side, averaged 1.174 rating in their opening two fixtures, which is only 0.072 higher compared to their average since the turn of the year.
When it comes to the map pool, however, Canids look better, with their 6-0 record on Mirage and 6-2 on Train, compared to DETONA’s 4-3 record on Dust II and 3-1 on Vertigo, as their two best maps.
It’s hard to separate the teams, however, due to their better map pool and superior form, RED Canids seem like the safer bet. Latto and co. are priced at $1.89 to defeat DETONA which is very generous and makes backing them here a very appealing betting choice.

]]>DETONA and Alma Gaming will clash this Wednesday in Round 2 of CLUTCH Season 2. The match will mark the second fixture of the season for the two Brazilian CS:GO esports squads.
DETONA enter the fixture following a dominant performance in Round 1 where they bested Soberano Team. André “tiburci0” Rossetto’s squad completely outclassed Gustavo “tge” Motta’s team on both Nuke (16-3) and Train (16-4), meaning they head into Round 2 with an impressive 32-7 round record.
After defeating Soberano Team, DETONA went on to appear at the FLASHPOINT South America Closed Qualifier. They bested Alma Gaming (0-2) and W7M Gaming (2-1) but fell flat in the semi-finals against Isurus (1-2), which pushed them into the lower bracket. There, DETONA made easy work of Rysix (0-2) and ended the series with a 1.54 rating across the squad, while tiburci0 put up a standout performance with a 1.91 rating to his name.
Alma Gaming’s first match at CLUTCH Season 2 did not go the way they had hoped, as they were thrashed by Isurus Gaming on Overpass (12-16) and Train (5-16).
Shortly after their loss against Isurus, Alma took a swing at FLASHPOINT South America Closed Qualifier. They started with a loss to DETONA (0-2) but found their footing in the lower bracket, where they defeated Soberano (2-0) and Dynasty (2-0). Despite their best efforts, however, Alma’s run came to a stop in Round 3, where they suffered a reverse-sweep against Rysix (1-2).

The Alma Gaming roster is assembled from some lesser-known Brazilian players who lack serious quality. On top of that, they are also struggling for form. While we have to give Alma some praise for their dominant wins against Dynasty and Soberano at the FLASHPOINT qualifiers, we can’t look past their 0-2 loss to DETONA last Friday.
DETONA proved to be a class above Alma Gaming on both Vertigo (16-9) and Inferno (16-13). Alma’s two best-performing players in the series were Raul “r4ul” Bruzaca (1.07) and Lucas “nqz” Soares (1.03), while the remaining three members failed to produce positive numbers. DETONA’s squad averaged 1.21, with Matheus “Tuurtle” Anhaia (1.36) and Filipe “fp1” Caires (1.35) the top-rated players of the series.
DETONA are the stronger team. They are higher ranked, in better form, and have already defeated Alma Gaming earlier last week.
Looking at the teams’ respective map pools, we can expect DETONA to pick Dust II and Alma to choose Inferno. There is also a possibility we could see Vertigo, as it was the map DETONA and Alma Gaming played in the FLASHPOINT qualifiers.
DETONA hold a better win rate on five of the seven CS:GO maps, with Alma having the edge on Dust II (100%-43%) and Overpass (40%-0%). However, we must take into consideration Alma’s win percentage on those maps is inflated as they won games against significantly weaker teams.
This will be a best-of-three (Bo3) match, meaning upsets are highly unlikely. Looking at the two teams, we do not believe Alma Gaming have enough quality to derail DETONA.
Backing the favourites at -285.71 might not offer a huge payout, but it is the best bet on offer. A -1.5 handicap bet on DETONA can also be taken into consideration if the odds are over -166.67.
