The New York Subliners triumphed over the Seattle Surge to clinch the Call of Duty League Major 1 title on Sunday in Raleigh, North Carolina. The eventual champions were forced to battle their way through the lower bracket to secure a spot in the grand finals, where they defeated the Surge with a 4-1 scoreline.

The Subliners advanced past the group with a 2-0 record, having bested the Los Angeles Guerrillas and Minnesota R?KKR with clean sweeps. In the first round of the upper bracket, they breezed through the Florida Mutineers to secure a spot in the second round.

New York were on a good run, having only lost one map from 10 played played in the tournament. However, they had their winning streak ended by the Surge on Saturday in the second round, losing 3-1 to drop into the lower bracket.

On Sunday, the Subliners played three matches in order to win the grand prize of $200,000. They first defeated the Toronto Ultra 3-2 in the de facto fourth-place game, then defeated the Atlanta FaZe 3-1 in the elimination final, and finally, won against the Surge in the best-of-seven grand final.

In their first lower-bracket fixture, New York were paired with the Las Vegas Legion. The Legion had the momentum having secured a win over the Minnesota R?KKR 3-2 in their lower bracket first-round match, but the Subliners proved too good and emerged with a 3-1 victory.

In the lower-bracket semifinals, NY were a game away from being eliminated by the Toronto Ultra. Toronto started off strong by winning 250-236 on Hardpoint (Hotel), but New York countered with a 6-3 win on Search & Destroy (Hotel) and a 3-0 result on Control (Hotel). Toronto then tied the match with a 250-139 victory on Hardpoint (Mercado), but New York secured the win with a 6-2 triumph on Search & Destroy (Fortress).

The Subliners and FaZe faced off in the lower-bracket final, with New York coming out on top with a score of 3-2. The Subliners started strong with a win on Hardpoint (Embassy), but FaZe fought back with a victory on Search & Destroy (Embassy).

The Subliners regained the lead with a win on Control (Hotel), but FaZe responded with a win on Hardpoint (Fortress). On the closing Search & Destroy map (El Asilo), the Subliners narrowly emerged as the winners with a score of 6-4.

In the elimination final, the Subliners were able to keep the Breenbergh Hotel map and began with a 250-199 win over the FaZe on Hardpoint. Atlanta managed to secure a 6-4 win on Search & Destroy (Hotel), but New York dominated on Control (Hotel) with a 3-0 victory. The Subliners sealed the win with a 250-210 triumph on Hardpoint (Fortress).

New York started off the grand finals with three consecutive close victories: 250-248 on Hardpoint (Hotel), 6-4 on Search & Destroy (Mercado), and 3-2 on Control (Hotel). The Surge managed to stay in the competition with a 250-231 win on Hardpoint (Mercado), but the Subliners ultimately emerged victorious with a 6-2 win on Search & Destroy (Embassy) to claim the championship.

The first day of the Call of Duty League Major One event came to an end with four CDL teams biting the dust and exiting the tournament.

Boston Breach, London Royal Ravens, Pollodrom and Decimate Gaming all failed to secure a win in their respective group stage outings. Their run in the tournament came to an end earlier than expected with a 0-2 record each. They will be finishing the tournament with a 13th-16th placing on the Major One standings with no prize money attachments.

The 2023 CDL Major One tournament, which includes four amateur teams alongside the 12 CDL franchises, saw two of these Challengers teams pull off upsets against Boston and London on the first day of competition. This differs from previous Majors, which did not give amateur players the opportunity to face off against top-ranked teams.

In their first game of Major One, Boston put up a strong fight but ultimately fell 3-2 to Elevate, a European Challengers team with former London player Joseph “Gismo” Evans. Boston lost both Hardpoints and a game five, round 11, sending them to the losers bracket in Group D.

Anthony “Methodz” Zinni and his team faced off against the Las Vegas Legion in their elimination match, but with a substitute due to the offseason addition, Joseph “Owakening” Conley feeling ill. Ben “Beans” McMellon, a new addition to the team, made his CDL debut as a replacement. Despite his efforts in helping the Breach win both Hardpoints, Boston ultimately lost both Search and Destroys and was eliminated from the tournament after a 3-2 defeat to Vegas.

London started off the event with a rough loss against Seattle Surge, who swept them 3-0. Despite having a high number of kills (67), Obaid “Asim” Asim couldn’t prevent the Royal Ravens from being placed in the Group C losers bracket.

The Los Angeles Guerrillas Academy team faced off against the London Royal Ravens, coming off a narrow 3-2 defeat to the Atlanta FaZe. The LAG Academy team, which includes former CoD world champion Adam “Assault” Garcia and the 18-year-old Joseph “JoeDeceives” Romero, won both Hardpoints against Atlanta but lost both Search and Destroy.

Despite losing the Hardpoints against London, LAG Academy managed to win the Search and Destroys and claimed a 3-2 victory, effectively eliminating London from the Raleigh event.

Pollodrum’s run in the tournament started with a Group B opening fixture against the Toronto Ultra. The amateur team stunned Toronto with an early 2-0 lead, but the lead fast turned to a loss as Toronto reverse swept Pollodrum to secure the win.

Their loss to Toronto guaranteed them a spot at the elimination match against the Florida Mutineers, who were deprived of a game-one win by OpTic Texas. In a four-game series, Florida claimed victory, eliminating Pollodrum from the event.

Decimate Gaming, on the other hand, were the only team in the entire tournament that failed to win a map. Their first outing in the Group A matchup against Minnesota R?KKR ended with a 0-3 loss, pushing them a step closer to elimination.

Their second fixture saw them go up against the Los Angeles Guerrillas, who had also suffered a 3-0 sweep in their previous matchup with the New York Subliners. The Guerrillas got the better of them, rampaging through them in a clean sweep, thereby leading to their eventual elimination.

ESBs free Call of Duty League (CDL) betting predictions focus on the opening CDL Major 1 bouts on Thursday, December 15. Here are our selections for Los Angeles Guerrillas vs New York Sublinbers and OpTic Texas vs Florida Mutineers.

LOS ANGELES GUERRILLAS vs NEW YORK SUBLINERS CDL BETTING & MATCH DETAILS

?Los Angeles Guerrillas finished the CDL Major 1 Qualifiers with a 2-2 record, having beaten Seattle Surge (3-2) and Boston Breach (3-1) but lost against London Royal Ravens (2-3) and New York Subliners (0-3). A 2-2 record isnt bad, but for predicting this match, we have to put a bit more weight on the Guerrillas defeat against the Subliners.

New York Subliners were clearly the better team in that series and looked dominant across all three maps, except for Search & Destroy (Embassy), which the Subliners won with a minimal margin (6-5). What makes that victory more impressive is that the Subliners started the qualifiers with two losses, but they looked like a completely different team in the final week.

We werent too high on New York ahead of the final qualifying week, but we did acknowledge that this can be a very strong team once they fix their issues. Whether that has happened is debatable, but the Subliners looked much better last week.

Theres a world where the Subliners 2-0 run was just a flash in the pan, but Los Angeles Guerrillas havent shown enough for us to trust them with our money. New York to win with at least two maps to spare is a solid bet at decent odds with BetOnline.

OPTIC TEXAS VS FLORIDA MUTINEERS CDL BETTING & MATCH DETAILS

Best Odds: OpTic -357.14 at BetOnline | Mutineers +250 at BetOnline
When: December 15, 2022 | 13:30 EST

OpTic Texas didnt impress anyone with their run through the qualifiers, but they did enough to earn respect. By beating Florida Mutineers (3-0) and London Royal Ravens (3-2), OpTic showed that theyre more than a mid-table team, while their only actual loss (ie. not including the forfeit) came against Los Angeles Thieves (1-3), which is hardly concerning.

Florida Mutineers managed the same 2-2 record in the CDL Major 1 Qualifiers. That includes a 3-1 victory against Los Angeles Thieves and defeats against Minnesota R?KKR (1-3) and OpTic Texas, who smashed the Mutineers 3-0 in the first week.

OpTic were in complete control of that series, with 250-202 on Hardpoint (Mercado), 6-2 on Search & Destroy (Embassy), and 3-0 on Control (Hotel). The Mutineers have since shown better performances, so while OpTic look like the clear favourites, we expect a closer affair on Thursday.

Florida to win at least two maps isnt impossible, and unless OpTic Texas show the same form they had in the first week of the qualifiers, its entirely achievable.
