Cloud9’s mid laner, Jang “EMENES” Min-soo, has publicly apologized following controversial remarks directed at European streamer Spear_shot during a solo queue match on September 14.
The apology came amid significant uproar from the League of Legends esports community, which have rallied around Spear_shot since the incdident.
Taking to X, EMENES expressed remorse and said his behaviour was a black mark on Cloud9 and was highly unprofessional.
“Hello, I’m EMENES, professional gamer from Cloud9,” he wrote.
“I would like to deeply apologize to the fans for making inappropriate remarks in a solo rank game around September 14. My actions were inexcusable, and I recognize the impact my words have in-game.”
Previously, EMENES criticized Spear_shot during a Korean solo queue game, labelling him a “disgusting EU streamer” and accused him of ruining the game. At the time, Spear_shot retorted, revealing in-game chats and justifying his gameplay.
Although Cloud9 announced handling the incident internally, there is no official word from Riot Games regarding further penalties. Presently, EMENES and Cloud9 are gearing up for the upcoming LoL Worlds in Seoul, scheduled for October.
Cloud9 is paying +8000 to win the LoL Worlds with esports betting sites, with Chinese esports outfit JD Gaming the +120 favourite.
